The Importance Of Education For Girls

Education is the most powerful tool of our modern society. Education for girls would lead to economic stability for poorer families, especially for those who live in third world countries. For them, educating girls is essential to fighting poverty.

Keeping girls uneducated is purely a waste of potential. with only half the population being educated and working, this becomes a fundamental flaw for a lot of poorer societies. Utilizing the full potential of their population is the next essential step to fighting and rising out of poverty. Educating girls is the key to a more productive and efficient society, and to create a more sustainable future for the generations to come.

SDG4 – quality education

The main purpose of goal 4 is to ensure quality education and learning opportunities for all. Obtaining a quality education is the key to a sustainable development. that is why it is goal number 4, and of high priority for the united nations.

Goal number four will;

  • Ensure that all youth and most adults achieve literacy. (the ability to read and write).
  • Equip more schools with essential supplies such as handwashing facilities, toilets, electricity.
  • Provide training for all teachers- more trained teachers are needed.

what improvements have been made?

Basic literacy skills have improved tremendously, yet bolder efforts are needed to make even greater strides for achieving universal education goals. For example, the world has achieved equality in primary education between girls and boys, but few countries have achieved that target at all levels of education.

Press freedom in the Philippines

The Philippines is a country that struggles to uphold freedom of the press. From the 2019 world press freedom index by Reporters Without Borders, the country was placed 134 out of total 180 countries.

The current president, Rodrigo Duterte, has no tolerance for the media putting him in a bad light. Along with his short-tempered staff, they threaten and silence the media with fear. They have several ways of silencing anyone who is too critical of the government’s actions. This is all done with complete impunity.

As many as three journalists have already been killed in 2019. Anyone who is too critical of the government could be a target. The journalists are assassinated, most likely by associates of politicians. These assassinations is a way for politicians to supress the media into silence using fear.

The country has some government- run media outlets, which gives them the potential to change public opinion. Although there are a high number of free media outlets, the Philippine media is still run by the economic and political elite.
